T-30 min — Spotting

The ship enters the Gulf of Olbia. We track the AIS position in real time and position ourselves at the Isola Bianca forecourt before disembarkation begins.

The ship docks. Foot-passenger disembarkation starts 10-15 minutes after docking; vehicles on board may take 30-60 minutes to come off.

T+15 min — Terminal exit

Leave the foot-passenger terminal (follow the 'Passenger exit' signs). You'll find us at the forecourt opposite, with a personalised GDIS sign.

T+25 min — Sign and go

Walk-around photos of the vehicle, digital contract signature on your smartphone, keys in hand. You're on the SS125 within minutes, heading for Olbia centre or Costa Smeralda.

Travelling without your own car?

Save on the ferry and rent only for the days you need

Taking your own car on the ferry from Civitavecchia or Livorno costs on average between 130 and 280 € one-way in peak season, plus the return trip. For short stays (up to 7-10 days), travelling as a foot passenger and renting on arrival is almost always more convenient: zero kilometres added to your own car, no comprehensive insurance from home, and full flexibility on the type of vehicle (you can take a scooter for the beach days and a citycar for excursions).

For trip planning, see our most popular destination pages for travellers arriving by ferry: Porto Cervo, San Teodoro, Baja Sardinia and Golfo Aranci.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I take the rental car onto a ferry to Corsica?

Yes, but you need written authorisation from the rental company (cross-border permit) issued before departure. Contact us at least 48 hours in advance with your ferry details: we prepare the document and a copy of the vehicle registration. Insurance surcharges may apply for cover in French territory.

Does the Port of Olbia have multiple terminals? Where exactly do I find you?

The main port is Isola Bianca, where Tirrenia, Moby, GNV, Grimaldi and the fast ferries dock. There is also the old industrial port, but it isn't used for passengers. We meet you at the forecourt in front of the Isola Bianca terminal, in the area for authorised shuttles/transfers.

What's the difference between arriving with your own car or without?

If you arrive with your own car, you simply don't need to rent anything. Many travellers, however, come to Sardinia as foot passengers (cheaper) and rent on arrival: in that case we meet you at the foot-passenger exit, the same one used by those with cars. You save on the ferry ticket and avoid putting kilometres on your own car.

Overnight ferries arrive very early — are you operating at dawn?

Yes. Disembarkation from Livorno and Genoa is typically between 06:00 and 07:30: it's one of our busiest windows. We don't serve coffee yet, but we do hand over a fully fuelled car.

What if the ferry is cancelled because of bad weather?

It happens 2-3 times a year, mostly at the start or end of the season. If your ferry is cancelled, let us know as soon as you have confirmation from the company: we reschedule delivery to your actual arrival date with no penalty. If your new date falls after the end of the booked period, we refund pro rata.

Can I leave my luggage in the vehicle while I head to Olbia centre?

Yes, but at your own risk: we recommend not leaving valuables in plain sight. The port is CCTV-monitored and generally safe, but the same common sense applies as in any car park. Theft cover is included with an excess.
